Oranges in Majorca

Majorca is one of the UK holiday maker's favourite destinations and has been for years. We decided to find out why... and were very pleasantly surprised!

Majorca for everyone!

This island is big enough to suit everyone - from those looking for the hottest nightspots and the liveliest beaches, to families with young children or teenagers in tow, there is a spot to suit everyone. Even those of us who prefer our R'n'R a little less frenetic and whose idea of heaven is peacefully watching the sun go down over a sparkling, warm sea, with a glass of wine in hand.

We have now visited the island many times to produce this virtual tour. We have stayed in the busy resort of Cala D'Or in the south west, the quieter Pollensa town in the north west and more recently Port Soller on the north coast. We think we have seen every beach and resort (and many of the inland places of interest too), so you don't have to! Before you decide on where you want to go, check out our virtual tour to find the places that are right for you...

Beaches and Resorts of Majorca

Established old favourites - lively...

These places will suit those of you who love drinking and dancing until the early hours, then sleeping it off on a beautiful beach, whilst topping up your tan. Many of these resorts will also be popular with families with older children and teenagers. Palma Nova, Magaluf, Cala Mayor, S'Arenal, C'an Pastilla, Sa'Illot, Cala Bona, Cala Millor, Sa Coma, Cala D'Or, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Gran, Cala Rajada, Cala Ferrara, Cala Domingos, Cala Murada, Cala Estancia.

Large, developed family resorts...

These places may be advertised as 'quieter', but we can tell you, they are big and very developed. If your children want to eat burgers and pizza and you don't want to miss the footie or the latest episode of Corrie, then you won't be disappointed here. They cater (almost exclusively) for the UK family market. The beaches here are fantastic! Alcudia Bay, Puerto Pollensa, Peguera

Large family resort, authentically Majorcan...

We felt these pretty resorts (although still having every amenity a family could desire) had not lost sight of their own character and Majorcan identity. Port Soller, Cala Santanyi, Porto Cristo

Small but perfectly formed...

These places couldn't really be called "resorts" as they have not sold their soul to tourism. Expect less in the way of "just-like-home-but-better-weather" and more of real Majorcan life, with a healthy respect for the holiday-maker! Cala San Vicente, Cala Pi, Cala Mesquida, upmarket Port Andratx

Day trip beaches...

These beaches don't offer the facilities of the all-singing-all-dancing resorts but instead have a beautiful beach to die for. Es Trenc, Formentor Beach, Camp de Mar, Cala Aguilla, Cala Llombards, Cala Torte

Walking or Cycling bases...

Majorca is fast becoming a favourite with cyclists and walkers - serious mountains await you in the north, but also if your idea of heaven is simply walking through pine forests, listening to the tinkle of the goats' bells and smelling jasmine in the air, then you might like to consider these as a base for your stay. Port Soller, Soller Town, Deia, Valldemossa

Trips out with views and countryside...

We have plenty of suggestions for a day out here too - whether it's stunning coastal views and rugged scenery like this... Malpas at Alcudia, Formentor peninsula, road from Soller to Pollensa, Reservoir above Soller, Porto Colom, Cala Mondrago Or Majorca's Cities and Towns, such as Palma (try visiting the Cathedral and Bellver Castle), Alcudia Old Town and its Sunday market, Pollensa Old Town, Soller (and the Soller tram to Port Soller, at the coast) or Valldemossa and Lluc Monastery, set in the hills of the north.

Now that we have been so many times, we may be running out of excuses to go back to Majorca, but we do love it there. Many Brits have settled on this stunning island and we can see why. We hope this introduction to Majorca will help you to choose your perfect holiday, so that you come to love the island too.
